Week 2 - match played 14th May

Week 2 of the Brand Putter saw Bonnyton Golf Club welcome Whitecraigs Golf Club in challenging cold and windy conditions.

Stepping in for Bonnyton Club Champion Grant Beaton, Sam Binning secured an impressive 2up victory over Gary Murphy. Both Mark MacMillan and his dad,Willie MacMillan, battled well to earn halved matches against Martin Myers and Sean Murdoch respectively.

Neil Gray made a fast start against Craig Campbell and was in a commanding position before Craig was unfortunately forced to concede through illness. Everyone at Bonnyton wishes Craig a speedy recovery. Returning Bonnyton member Nilam Purewal, playing in his first team match in over 15 years, was defeated 6&5 by Scott Campbell.

Scott Douglas then put the tie out of reach for Whitecraigs by beating Willie Anderson 2&1. Dave Reid holed an excellent long birdie putt on the final green to earn a hard-fought half against Allan Johnston. Bonnyton junior standout Jimmy Middleton, just 14 years old, continued his impressive form by claiming his second Brand Putter victory in as many matches with a superb 2up win over Stephen McNamara.

The final result saw Bonnyton record a 5.5–2.5 victory over Whitecraigs.Best of luck to Scott and his team for the remainder of the season.

Week 1 - match played on 7th May

After much needed afternoon rain, Pollok welcomed East Ren to Barrhead Road on the opening evening of the 2026 Brand Putter League season.

New member Gregor Cannon lived up to his name, leading off with a thunderous three iron on the first tee that could be heard across the road at Cowglen… and beyond. A strong debut performance and a 3/2 win over Fraser Craig.

James Hendrick turned a 2 hole deficit into a win on the 18^th in the #1 match against Neil MacKinnon, followed shortly by Brendan McKenna also winning on the last with a birdie 3 against the evergreen Craig Watson.

Matt Hendrick ground out a halved match with Chris Barron, by which time Marc McLaughlin and Chris Wedgeworth had posted comfortable wins over Iain Thompson and Tom Kemp respectively.
Ross McCartney managed a hard fought away win against Lewis Cullen – the first loss of Lewis’ Pollok Brand Putter career no less.
Rounding out the win was Jonathan Brown with a sensational sand save on the seventeenth to defeat Hugh Shiels Jnr by 2/1.

Fantastic night for golf, the course was in terrific order and thanks to the East Ren team and captains for a match played in a competitive but friendly spirit.

Week 1 - played on 7th May

Well the anticipated start of the Brand Putter league 2026 has started, and first up was the battle of the Titans; Haggs welcomes the defending Champions Cathkin on a wonderful sunny evening to start their campaign. First up Paul Mclean gave Gordon Sangster a credit worthy run which ended in a Haggs 2/1 defeat. David Gravil had a magnificent win over the talented Greg Brown to get Haggs points up and running. Team Manager Craig Morrison succumbed to the big hitting David McLaren 2/1, who’s short game was nothing short of masterful on the night with a chip in toput a win beyond Craig. John Mathers was victorious with a 2/1 win against Cathkins new member Lewis Cheetham who allegedly playing Haggs for the first time, has played more games at Haggs than he has at Cathkin ;) Ross Macleod was on fire as usual and beat Ben Sloan 4/3. To take haggs to a 3 – 2 lead – all to play for. Haggs Ben Adamson sporting his new 2026 look, holed a great putt on the last to secure another point for Haggs. Scott Rodgers who played his first game for Haggs in over 5 years, got a very credible half against Harry Hutchison. Last up Scott Baird got the win he was looking for against Cathkins’ team manager Stevie Doyle.
The reserve game between Bobby Gray and Max Welsh end up in a very gentlemanly halved match.
In summary Haggs won 5.5 - 2.5. A terrific start to the 2026 campaign for Haggs against a very strong Cathkin team, a home win victory against one of our strongest rivals is something that should be celebrated. Well done to the Haggs boys.
